Asian X-Games 2000
2001-Jan-06
It was held in Phuket, Thailand where Richard and I decided to visit and check out the skateboarding. It was the first time that Hong Kong has it’s representative, Hui Chun Kwok known to the skateboarders in Hong Kong as Lee Hawk.
Many great skateboarders all across Asia (Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia and the host themselves, Thailand) showed up. It was supposed to be a competition but we later found out that it’s only an exhibition. All of them can skate at the same time and later on will be chosen to perform by themselves in 45 seconds. Those skateboarders were chosen by the demonstrator from the US, Brian Patch, Chris Lambert, Richard Kirby, Sasha Steinhorst, etc.
To be honest, many of the skateboarders are super talented and many of them skate better than many of the sponsor skateboarders in the States. They need more support is what I can say. Names like Vor, Pui, Tao, Padin and many more are those names that you will probably heard in the coming time, never underestimate these skateboarders, they kick ass.
At the end of the day, they announced the best performer on their board, Pa’din from Malaysia has the honor to receive it. He’s super amazing, he 50-50 the long rail and caught a big 360 flip off the bank. Congratulation Pa’din, skate more and have fun.
That’s about it, many skateboarders know many new friends, phone numbers were trade and shit, and it was a really really good time.
See you all next year and it’ll be in Malaysia.
Peace and take care,
JBS
