Alphanumeric - Etnies & Oakley
2000-Sep-08
On Saturday, August 26, 2000 Etnies and Oakley presented the 2nd annual Etnies & Team BK Put Up or Shut Up basketball tournament held at Oakley headquarters.
Over 400 people came out to ball, skate, and benefit C.H.O.C. (Children's Hospital of Orange County), including Mike Vallely, his wife, daughter and two dogs. The Active street course was sponsored by Transworld Skateboarding and the groms were in full effect.
DJs Iron Mike, Smally Biggs and Poet Name Life pumped up the crowd, Wahoo's brought their much-loved tacos, and Sol Cerveza generously donated 20 cases of beer. Red Bull was there, at first keeping everybody up for the game, then adding vodka to the mix. The world famous Laker girls even came out for the event!
32 teams; including Alphanumeric, Nixon, Hurley and more; fought it out for the glory. Eric Koston made a valiant effort along with Girl team members Rick Howard, Jason Calloway, and Kelly Bird. Both Oakley and Circa held their own, but were taken out in the quarter finals. Etnies was going strong, until an injury killed our chances.
